Just received this thank you card from the Forever Manchester charity and thought it would be a nice opportunity to recap on what was another successful night, and pass on this thanks to everyone who was involved. There’s two reasons for a High Five party; one, have a wicked party, and two, raise some dosh for a worthy cause. If you were there you will know that we easily achieved number one. In addition to this we also raised £850 for Forever Manchester, which will now be used to help fund community projects all over the region. So its job done all round!

It was great night and top sets from everyone who played. People were proper getting into it, even to the point that when I stopped the music to try and draw a winner of our charity giveaway I was booed off from behind the decks with people at the back were chanting , “Music, music, music.” Wicked!

Anyway, I received this card from Forever Manchester showing their gratitude, I second that thought and would like to say the following people are sound…

All the DJs from the night; Alan Hall, Neil Diablo, James Rial, Greg Lord, Adam Ross, Rich Halling and Matt Wilden. All the crew from 2022NQ, Ste, Jamie, Neil, Keith and Tunji, thanks again for having us, looking forward to next time. Our High Five designer Louis McCleery a.k.a Unequal Balance for sorting out all our artwork, again! Craig and Laura from Forever Manchester for all their help with the promo and Sue who volunteered on behalf of the charity on the night. Also thanks to all the nights who donated prizes to another wicked High Five giveaway; Content, The Faversham, 2022NQ, TPot and Zutekh and The Warehouse Project, that was one hell of a prize. Finally an additional thanks to Irish for all the running around setting up and promoting he did with me for the night.

HIGH FIVE SUMMER PARTY 18TH AUGUST 2012. Our next party is much sooner than I anticipated with a couple of dates much later in the year planned however when I heard that 2022NQ was available for a party in August I was keen. A few phone calls and a bit of research and I had hooked up with Forever Manchester, the community foundation for Greater Manchester. This organisation is involved with projects all over and around the city but in particular it was the fact that they stepped in big time when a massive gas explosion rocked my hometown Shaw back in June.

Despite the short notice we have not allowed our standards to slip one little bit on the music front and we linked up with Manchester’s FIVE best house and techno nights to provide you with a line up with DJs from Content, E Diablos, The Warehouse Project, TPot and Zutekh. This is going to be another belter so get involved!

High Five breaks through Six Thousand Pounds fundraising mark!

I think its worth a mention, now that we have collected all the money in from High Five for MCR, that since we started the parties we’ve raised £6,000, all of which has gone to some great causes. What started as one party to raise a grand continues to do exactly what it sets out to do, and last months High Five for MCR party was a belter showing that we can do it in Manchester as well as Leeds. There’s too many people who have been involved to list here but nice one to Alan Hall, Steve Hawkins and Matt Wilden who have been at the hub of organising each party with myself…

Now lets crack on! We have two parties in planning for the remainder of 2012 and this time we are focussing on one cause; poverty in Africa. We’re still in the early planning stages but details will be released over the coming months. I really want to raise the bar with this one and am aiming to raise £4,000 over these two parties, if you want to get involved let me know andy.b.scott@gmail.com.

High Five, the organisation behind a number of nights bringing together quality house music DJs for good causes, is happy to introduce its 4^th fund raising event on Saturday 19^th May; High Five for MCR. All proceeds from the night will be split between two charities; The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The hospital needs little introduction, as it is well known that this is a world-class facility benefitting kids from all over the Greater Manchester and beyond. The Ronald McDonald Charities may be a little less familiar, they have just funded the construction of the Ronald McDonald House Manchester which is next to the children’s hospital and is a place where the families of very sick children can stay whilst their loved ones are undergoing treatment in the hospital, really important given the distances people travel to come to the hospital. We are proud to be supporting these causes.

The night itself is shaping up to be a big one, with over fifteen of the city’s best DJs taking a break from there busy schedules to come down and play for us for free! Their remit is simple; to give us a half hour set of their signature sound. It’s shaping up to be a belter with all of Manchester’s biggest nights represented from the underground collectives such as Content and Zutekh through to the giants of the Manchester scene, The Warehouse Project and Sankeys. We even have original DJs from legendary Manchester nights Bugged Out and Electric Chair getting in on the action.

In addition to the amazing line up we have also kindly been given a pair of Parklife Weekender passes to raffle off which one lucky attendee will be going home with, a great prize seeing as the festival is selling out fast and looks to be amazing.

All this is taking place in a venue that is fast becoming well known as Manchester’s best spaces for creative arts and events, 2022nq and so we owe the guys from there a big thank you too.

The event takes place on Saturday 19^th May, doors open at 8.00pm and the cost is £5, all of which goes to the charities.

About High Five

High Five was created in October 2010 by fundraiser Andy Scott and venue owner Steve Hawkins in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Through their combined contacts within the Leeds and Manchester club scheme they brought together 30 DJs to play there top five tunes in the name of charity. The party was a great success with £1,500 raised for the charity and an amazing night had. With this in mind they decided to make the one off party into a brand and carry on with the basic concept of good music and good times for good causes. The last 18 months has seen High Five raise money for The Meningitis Trust, Parkinson’s UK and The Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal as well as McMillan. During this time we have raised nearly £5,000 in total. High Five for Manchester also see’s Alan Hall joining the organisational crew.

Carrying on the theme of mint prizes at High Five parties we have managed to get our hands on a couple of Parklife Weekender tickets which we will be giving away on the night. How the giveaway works is nice and basic; raffle tickets on sale as you enter the venue, the draw will be made at midnight and someone will be going home with two tickets to one of the summer’s best festivals. Before we concentrate on rave, rave, rave I thought it would be a nice idea to put a few words together about the two causes that will benefit from all of the proceeds from the night. This time round we are doing it for the kids, with The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity and the Ronald McDonald House Charities being our chosen causes. We thought it important for local organisations to benefit from our first Manchester party and you cannot really get more local than these two.

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital opened in June 2009 and is home to state-of-the-art facilities that have been designed with its young patients very much in mind. Although based in Manchester, the hospital serves the whole of the North West and sees over 135,000 patients every year. The charity’s role is vital in raising money for treatment, care and research to ensure this remains the amazing facility that it is. The Ronald McDonald House Charities are responsible for the Ronald McDonald House Manchester. This is a brand new addition to the city and is located right next to the Children’s Hospital, their mission is to provide comfort and care for children and their families while patients are being seen at the Hospital. This is a great for Manchester and the whole North West, makes the coming for treatments so much more bearable for all involved. A little round up of what we’ve achieved since we first High Fived!..

When we held the first High Five party back in October 2010 it was only meant to be to be a one off event, I mean you could only expect to put on a party with such a big line up once. And so we partied like that. To be honest with you as I dragged myself home on the Tuesday morning (the party had started on Sunday afternoon) I wasn’t thinking of the next High Five but by the end of that week following the feedback we’d received and more importantly seeing how much we had raised for Macmillan Cancer Support I knew we must do it again.

Now with three parties under our belt and a lot of good times I pleased to say that in total we have raised a total £4,800 for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, The Meningitis Trust, The Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal and Parkinson’s UK.

Each party has had its own little twist making that extra bit special whilst maintaining the concept of having a shit hot line up and supporting a great cause, we’ve been lucky enough to have the following DJ at High Five:

Audiojack, Buckley, PBR Streetgang, Gavin Herily, Dave Beer, Tristan Da Cunha, Frenchy, Krysko, Greg Lord, Death on the Balcony, Ryan Shaw, Jacob Kelly, Matt Playford, Rob James, James Barnsley, Jon Woodall, Si Morrell and many more, over 50 DJs have graced the decks in just three parties!

We continue into 2012 with two more parties in planning, this time away from our original home The Loft to add something new to the High Five concept but we will still be keeping it good old solid house music all night long!

High Five for Halloween: Fundraising total and prizes

Thanks to everyone who made it down to the last High Five party at The Loft on 28^th October it was an absolute winner in every way. People were loving it and we have raised more than we did do in previous High Five parties. Anyway, now that the dust has settled (and the smoke cleared) a couple of loose ends to tie up with regards to the amounts raised for the charities and the prizes.

Money for Parkinson’s UK We have now sent £400 to Parkinson’s UK. This was what we had agreed to raise for them before the event.

Money for The Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal We have in excess of £1,100 to send to this appeal so far but we don’t want to stop there in which case we are keeping the JustGiving page (http://www.justgiving.com/highfiveforhalloween) open for the foreseeable future.

Prizes There is little doubt in anybody’s mind that High Five for Halloween went off and on the night we the DJs were absolutely smashing it and the crowd was loving it and so we decided not to stop the music for the raffle, we apologise for this but please remember that all the money is going to a very good cause.

We return to The Loft for High Five for Halloween on the 28th October, the party is in aid of two very worthwhile causes, the Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal and Parkinson’s UK. More details of the causes are below.

It being High Five and Halloween we have got a monster line up, with loads of your favourite DJs from Leeds and beyond playing as you’ve not seen them before, with full Halloween makeovers. We’re giving them half an hour each to show us what they can do, so expect the very best in haunted house music as they will all be getting fully into the Halloween spirit.

The Sadie Rose Clifford Appeal is to be the main benefactor of the night. The appeal has been set up to pay for treatment for Sadie Rose, a little girl who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of childhood cancer. Parkinsons UK provide support to sufferers of Parkinson’s Disease and their families through nursing and advice. As well as this they fund research into finding a cure for the disease, something that they believe is very possible. More details can be found at http://www.parkinsons.org.uk/
